FINE PARTICLE CLASSIFIER SELECTION

One company needed to find the best particle classifier for processing several tons/hr of 3um powders.  We identified all viable commercial equipment and organized full-size trials by several manufacturers in multiple countries.  Because there are many throughput and other operational variables that differed between each manufacturer's test conditions, the difficult task was to ensure each machine could be benchmarked identically.

TEI developed a multi-dimensional mathematical model to benchmark the different performances, and also devised a unique way to graphically represent the confusing arrays of data involved. Thus by profiling the performance of several runs on each machine under varying conditions, then each machine could be mathematically optimized to maximize the desired yields on a common theoretical feed-stock and the 1, 3 and 5 yr profit predicted.  The results yielded some surprising insights into the critical performance parameters and clear identified the best machine.
